Financial Controller – Job Description

This person will have full autonomy and responsibility of the finance department reporting directly to the Managing Director. The initial project upon joining will entail setting up and improving the current accounting systems and processes
this may also include supporting the employment of a team member to assist the running of finance department. This role will suit an ambitious individual who is looking to join a fast growing business, is commercially minded and over time could grow into the role of Finance Director.

The ongoing role will involve;

  • Preparation of monthly management reports including full job costing reporting and further analysis to assist the management team
  • Preparation of budget & cash flow forecast and management of business cash flow
  • Ensuring VAT, CIS and other HMRC compliance filings are kept up to date
  • Liaising directly with surveyors at project level and providing financial support
  • Maintain the accounting system with daily finance data
  • Management of the sales and purchases ledger and dealing directly with clients and suppliers
  • Reconciliation of all accounts including bank’s
  • Management of banking including arrangement of payment runs
  • Provide robust financial data to management level and act as finance business partner helping management level make business decisions


  • ACCA, ACA or CIMA qualified or equivalent (qualified by experience also considered)
  • Experience in a similar sized business (£10M+)
  • Detailed knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, job costing and cash flow management
  • Prepare year end annual accounts and liaise with accountants/auditors on preparation of financial statements
  • Experience working within a similar role in the construction industry would be useful although not essential
  • The role may require a candidate to organise an audit in the near future and experience dealing with auditors would be useful
  • Ambitious and self-motivated individual

Salary: £60-70k per annum *Negotiable based on experience
